Renewable wind energy can reduce your energy costs

With the rising cost of power, many homeowners are looking for ways to lower the amount of electricity they have to purchase each month from their local power utility. To do this, they are turning to renewable wind energy solutions to help them generate electricity from a passing breeze. They are using this free electricity to offset the amount of power they need to purchase for their home.

These modern renewable wind energy power systems are easy to install and will provide a good amount of power from even a small breeze. Most of these updated electric wind power systems have been specifically engineered to take advantage of the lower wind speeds of most residential environments and are still able to generate an appreciable amount of power for your home. They do this through a combination of improvements in both design and materials and today represent some of the quietest and reliable turbines ever built.

Unlike previous models of electric wind power turbines that were adapted for residential use from larger commercial models, these new and smaller designs were built with this environment in mind. Older turbines were large and required a strong and steady wind to orient them correctly and start them rotating. They were primarily designed to work in locations that fit these criteria, like a coastal area that enjoyed a steady offshore breeze that typically blew in a specific direction.

This allowed these large wind turbines to orient themselves quickly and rotate for long periods of time, generating large amounts of power. Because these larger designs were the basis for most of the models that were sold for consumer applications, they also needed a strong and consistent wind to be productive. The only way to get this in most neighborhoods was to mount the wind turbine on a large tower to position it high enough to catch a consistent wind. This tower proved to be a source of complaints for most communities, as well as the noise these early models of wind turbines generated when in operation.

In contrast to these larger wind turbines, the modern residential turbines are smaller and will help to make wind energy cost less than in years past by lowering your initial investment. The latest designs for these residential wind turbines are perfect for use in a neighborhood environment where the wind is typically inconsistent in both its velocity and direction because it has to navigate around obstacles like trees, buildings and other structures. These newer wind turbines are built smaller and lighter and this allows them to orient quicker and start generating power. There are also several innovative designs that are based on a vertical wind turbine that doesn't need to orient to the wind at all, and can spin with a wind from any direction.

Homeowners can mount smaller models directly on their roof

Another factor that allows these new wind turbines to help wind energy cost less is their ease of mounting. Because of their size and design, several of them can even be mounted directly on the homeowners roof. This eliminates the cost and problems associated with installing a tower that would have been needed for the older solutions.
